The Super Eagles’ journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has encountered another challenge, as Zimbabwe’s national team has been promised a hefty financial incentive to secure victories in their upcoming qualifiers.
Zimbabwean players, alongside their technical crew and support staff, were initially set to receive a $150,000 reward from their government for defeating Benin.
However, their match ended in a 2-2 draw on Thursday. Now, another $150,000 has been offered if they manage to upset Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Uyo.
While this bonus serves as motivation for the Warriors, it could also be perceived as a slight towards the Super Eagles, given their stature as three-time African champions.
It should be noted that Nigeria’s qualification campaign has been far from ideal, the Super Eagles are struggling in Group C, ranking fifth. Although a win over Rwanda yesterday has set the mood for their confidence in motion.
