Family of kidnapped retired Delta Director seeks IG’s intervention

Must read

The family of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, a retired director who was kidnapped in Delta State, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene and facilitate his rescue.

At a press briefing in Abuja, the family’s solicitor and Principal Partner of Forthright Chambers, Frank Tietie, disclosed that his law firm had submitted a petition to the IGP, urging urgent action on the case.

Tietie explained that Ofobrukueta, who retired six years ago from the Post-Primary Education Board (PPEB) in Asaba, was abducted by armed men on January 13 in front of his residence in Mosogar, near Sapele, Delta State.

The incident occurred on the day he was supposed to travel to Asaba to process and collect his pension.

He lamented that, despite efforts by the Delta State Police Command, Ofobrukueta has remained in captivity for over two months, leaving his family in distress.

As part of their efforts to secure his release, the family engaged a private tracking company just days after the abduction.

Tietie revealed that a ransom of N4,020,000 was paid through individuals who volunteered to deliver the money to the kidnappers.

However, despite the payment, the victim has yet to be released, and neither he nor the abductors have made any contact since.

He further stated that some of the victim’s relatives suspect that individuals close to him, including those who delivered the ransom, may have been complicit in the kidnapping.

Despite the family’s growing despair, Tietie expressed confidence in the Nigeria Police Force’s ability to handle the situation effectively.

He urged the IGP to personally take an interest in the case, emphasizing that the police have the resources and expertise needed to track down the abductors and secure Ofobrukueta’s release.

“The IGP, as part of his responsibility to the citizens, should ensure that Ofobrukueta is found and safely returned to his family,” he said.

Tietie also called on the Delta State Government to actively support efforts to rescue the victim and ensure that his family is not left to face the ordeal alone.

He urged law enforcement agencies and other relevant authorities to intensify their efforts in rescuing all individuals still held in captivity by kidnappers.
