The Benue State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia, has approved ₦149.5 billion for major infrastructure development across the state.

Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Makurdi.

According to him, the projects are aimed at boosting the state’s economy and improving the overall well-being of residents.

As part of the approvals, the council sanctioned an immediate payment of ₦1.5 billion to CGC, the Chinese company responsible for constructing the Otobi/Otukpo and Katsina-Ala Water Works over a decade ago.

The Ministry of Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change has been directed to engage the company for the rehabilitation of the facility to restore water supply in Otobi, Otukpo, and surrounding communities.

Additionally, the council approved several major road projects, including the extension and dualization of the Wurukum-Airforce Base Road, an upgrade of the Mbawuar to Bako-Negher and Spur to Mbaakon Road, and the construction of a five-span bridge at Mu.

The Wurukum-Airforce Base Road expansion, awarded at ₦68.3 billion, is expected to enhance transportation and boost economic activities.

Meanwhile, the upgrade of the Mbawuar to Bako-Negher and Spur to Mbaakon Road, valued at ₦73.9 billion, aims to improve road safety and reduce travel time. These projects will be handled by M/S Bahaus Global Investment Nigeria Limited.

Other key projects include the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Deputy Governor’s Lodge at a cost of ₦1.1 billion, ensuring a more suitable working environment for the deputy governor.

Additionally, ₦4.5 billion has been allocated for the reconstruction of the Assembly Complex and Clinic, which will provide a modern facility for lawmakers and staff. This project will be executed by Gerewa Global Engineering LTD.

In a separate development, Kula also announced that the council received an approval letter from the federal government for the establishment of an Infectious Disease Control Centre in Vandeikya Local Government Area.

This approval follows Governor Alia’s request, expressing concern over the rise in infectious disease cases in the state.
