The Tinubu-led government has dismissed the newly announced coalition of opposition figures—including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Nasir El-Rufai of the Social Democratic Party—describing it as an alliance driven by hatred and frustration.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga made this statement on Thursday, shortly after Abubakar and his allies declared their coalition.
He characterized the group as a gathering of “sore losers” who are only united by their opposition to President Bola Tinubu.
According to Onanuga, the coalition is not motivated by the public good but by personal grievances and self-interest.
He described its leaders as “disgruntled” and accused them of being singularly focused on stopping Tinubu rather than contributing positively to national development.
He further stated that the president remains committed to governance and will not be distracted by political maneuvering.
Onanuga highlighted Tinubu’s achievements so far, noting that significant national challenges are being tackled, and the government is making progress toward building a prosperous country.
AFRIPOST reports that the opposition coalition was formally announced during a press conference at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, where its leaders criticized Tinubu’s state of emergency declaration in Rivers State.
At the event, Abubakar confirmed that the coalition is being positioned as a formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
