The Nigerian government has announced plans to manufacture military equipment for the country’s armed forces.
Shuaibu Abubakar-Audu, the Minister of Steel Development, revealed this on Thursday, March 20, 2025, during a visit to the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency in Kaduna.
According to him, the Ministry of Steel Development will collaborate with the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to kickstart the initiative.
He further disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been drafted and forwarded to DICON, pending presidential approval.
Abubakar-Audu emphasized that reviving the Ajaokuta Steel Company is a priority for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He noted that integrating military hardware production into the facility is part of a broader strategy to establish a military-industrial complex in Nigeria.
