Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel and resources to Rivers State to enhance security and safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, stating that the deployment will be coordinated alongside the Armed Forces and other security agencies to prevent any unrest in the state.
Egbetokun reiterated that while citizens have the right to seek legal redress, any unlawful protests or activities that could disrupt public peace will not be tolerated.
“The Nigeria Police Force emphasizes that individuals should pursue grievances through lawful channels. Any attempt to disturb public order through illegal means will face the full force of the law,” the statement read.
Residents have been urged to remain law-abiding and continue their daily activities without fear, as security agencies are committed to maintaining stability.
Authorities also advised the public to report any suspicious activities, warning that anyone attempting to incite unrest will face serious consequences.
This development follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday.
The President also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly for six months, appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (retd) as the state’s Sole Administrator.
