NJC denies CJN ordered Nnamdi Kanu’s release, repatriation

Must read

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has dismissed reports that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, ordered the immediate release and repatriation of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to Kenya.

In a statement released on Thursday, the NJC described the claim as baseless and a fabrication. It emphasized that the CJN has no involvement in Kanu’s legal proceedings.

“There is no court decision or judgment where such a directive was issued by the CJN,” the statement clarified.

“The NJC further stressed that Justice Kekere-Ekun neither presided over Kanu’s case at the Supreme Court nor made any pronouncement on the matter.

It also refuted allegations that the CJN wrote a letter to the Kenyan government or its High Commission in Nigeria apologizing for Kanu’s arrest and trial.

The NJC urged the public to disregard the misleading report.

The statement was signed by the NJC’s Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Ogedengbe.
