Gov Fubara backs Tinubu’s emergency rule in Rivers, urges residents to support process

Despite criticism from political analysts and legal experts over President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed his commitment to ensuring its success in restoring peace and stability.

Fubara urged residents to cooperate with the newly appointed administrator, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd), rather than resist the emergency measures.

He emphasized that the situation called for patience, wisdom, and faith in the democratic system rather than resorting to violence.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Fubara reaffirmed that his leadership has always been guided by constitutional principles and the protection of lives and property.

He noted that his administration had complied with the Supreme Court’s ruling and had taken steps to implement President Tinubu’s peace initiative, including reinstating commissioners who had previously resigned.

The governor blamed members of the state legislature for obstructing efforts to restore harmony, stating that despite political differences, governance had continued effectively, with salaries paid and development projects progressing.

Encouraging citizens to remain law-abiding, Fubara assured them that he would engage with relevant institutions to uphold democracy and ensure the prosperity of Rivers State.
