The Director of Lands in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chijioke Nwankwoeze, has refuted claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that two of its properties were revoked in a politically motivated move.
Speaking to journalists, Nwankwoeze clarified that out of the 4,974 land titles recently revoked, only Plot Number 243 in the Central Area belonged to the PDP.
He added that the other property, which the party uses as its secretariat, is actually owned by Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi, who purchased it from Wadata Enterprises Nigeria Limited.
Regarding the revoked PDP property, he revealed that it had accumulated a ground rent debt of ₦7,603,504.31 over 20 years.
Meanwhile, Senator Kurfi’s property, located at Plot No. 1970, Wuse I (Wadata Plaza), had an outstanding ground rent of ₦2,848,173.36 over 28 years.
Nwankwoeze further noted that the revocation affected a wide range of landowners, including government institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Borno and Kaduna State Governments, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and National Universities Commission (NUC).
Other affected entities include the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Federal Ministry of Environment, Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, University of Calabar, Nigerian Postal Service, and the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
Thousands of private individuals and organizations were also impacted by the land revocation, the director added.
