Seyi Tinubu deserves recognition, not attacks – APC Chieftain

Must read

APC chieftain and youth advocate, Comrade Isaac Balami, has dismissed the recent backlash over Seyi Tinubu’s tour of northern Nigeria, describing it as unnecessary and politically driven.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Balami suggested that the criticism may have stemmed from growing calls for Seyi Tinubu to contest the Lagos State governorship seat.

Balami, a former Trade Union Congress (TUC) spokesperson and ex-president of the Aircraft Pilots and Engineers Association, explained that instead of privately thanking Seyi Tinubu for his humanitarian efforts, he chose to publicly address the misconceptions surrounding his goodwill initiatives.

According to him, rather than being attacked, Tinubu should be celebrated for his contributions to national unity and humanitarian causes, as his charitable work transcends religion and political affiliations.

Balami dismissed the outrage over Tinubu’s visit to the north, stating, “Those who oppose him understand that his efforts do not just serve him but empower young Nigerians.”

He further noted that Tinubu’s philanthropic initiatives never sparked controversy until discussions about his possible political future began.

Balami emphasized that Seyi Tinubu’s continuous outreach, particularly to young people and the disadvantaged, reflects his commitment to peace and national cohesion.

“Many Nigerian parents would aspire to have a child like Seyi—one who prioritizes service to humanity over personal indulgence,” he said.

Encouraging young politicians, entrepreneurs, and local government officials to emulate Tinubu’s commitment to the less privileged, Balami pointed out that Tinubu had been involved in charity work long before his father became president. “His Ramadan outreach initiatives started over a decade ago. Should he now abandon them just because of his father’s position?”

He also dismissed claims that Tinubu’s efforts were politically motivated, arguing that even if they were, they should still be seen as a positive contribution to society.

Comparing Tinubu’s lifestyle to that of many children of influential politicians, Balami stated: “Most children of presidents lead extravagant lives, disconnected from ordinary citizens. But Seyi Tinubu remains accessible and focused on service. Would Nigerians prefer to see him wasting time and resources abroad instead?”

Expressing concern over how significant matters are often trivialized in Nigeria, Balami pointed out that many high-profile individuals support both Christian and Muslim communities during religious observances. He questioned why Seyi Tinubu’s visit was being treated differently.

He also recalled Tinubu’s extensive humanitarian efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and highlighted his generosity in assisting people across political divides, including individuals who had previously opposed his father.

Balami further noted that Tinubu’s company employs a diverse workforce, with over half of its staff being from northern Nigeria, reinforcing his commitment to inclusion and national development.

In conclusion, he argued that Seyi Tinubu deserves appreciation rather than criticism, stating: “He should be commended for his efforts, not condemned. My wish is that every family has a ‘Seyi’—someone dedicated to uplifting others.”

Encouraging Tinubu to stay focused, Balami added: “People only throw stones at trees that bear fruit. Keep making a difference, and history will recognize your impact.”

Recently, Seyi Tinubu toured several northern states in support of Muslim communities during Ramadan, engaging in charitable activities and empowering individuals.
