Vice-President Kashim Shettima has called on members of the National Assembly to embrace their leadership roles with a sense of responsibility, focusing on national unity and development rather than political divisions.

Speaking on Monday during an Iftar gathering hosted by President Bola Tinubu for members of the House of Representatives at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Shettima emphasized the importance of humility and collective commitment to progress.

“Ultimately, history will not remember us for personal rivalries but for the connections we forged to strengthen our nation,” Shettima remarked.

“We are here not as opponents in a power struggle but as collaborators in the mission of nation-building.”

Highlighting the significance of Ramadan and its alignment with the Lenten season, the vice-president urged reflection and renewed dedication to Nigeria’s unity.

He stressed that the values uniting the country far outweigh its differences.

“This sacred period calls for choosing stability over conflict, cooperation over division, and dialogue over discord,” he stated.

Shettima praised President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a visionary who values inclusivity and trusts the lawmakers as key players in strengthening democracy.

“With President Tinubu, you have not just a trustworthy leader, but one who believes in you,” he said.

“He views you as the voice of the people and partners in building a stronger Nigeria.”

Addressing the country’s economic trajectory, the vice-president expressed optimism, noting that the government’s policies were beginning to yield positive results.

He assured that Nigeria was on a path to sustainable growth, with opportunities for all citizens to prosper.

Shettima also commended Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and the House leadership for maintaining harmony within the legislature.

He underscored the inseparable link between peace and development, stating, “A united legislature is a testament to our shared determination to move Nigeria forward.”
