The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a fire outbreak on the Trans-Niger Delta Pipeline, emphasizing that there is no threat to public safety.
Authorities identified the facility as belonging to the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and stated that two individuals had been taken into custody for questioning regarding the incident.
According to police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, the fire broke out on Monday night but has since been brought under control.
However, she did not specify whether the cause was linked to a militant attack, an explosion, or a pipeline spill.
She explained that security operatives on patrol spotted the fire and immediately notified SPDC, which promptly shut down the affected pipeline to prevent further damage.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to determine whether foul play was involved.
Iringe-Koko assured residents that security forces remain committed to maintaining safety and ensuring those responsible for criminal activities are held accountable.
