A Greek woman already serving a life sentence for the murder of her nine-year-old daughter has been handed two additional life terms for killing her two other children.
An Athens court ruled on Tuesday that 36-year-old Roula Pispirigou deliberately suffocated her infant daughters, Malena and Irida, in 2019 and 2021.
The court determined that she committed the crimes in an attempt to prevent her husband from leaving her.
Pispirigou, who maintains her innocence, is expected to appeal the ruling.
Her latest conviction follows a separate verdict in March 2024, when she was found guilty of poisoning her eldest daughter, Georgina, with ketamine while the child was hospitalized.
That case prompted a re-examination of Malena and Irida’s deaths, leading to the discovery that both had been asphyxiated.
Prosecutor Vassiliki Dimopoulou argued that Pispirigou acted with clear intent, calling her actions calculated and deliberate.
Malena, aged three and a half, had initially been diagnosed with acute liver failure, while six-month-old Irida’s death was attributed to heart failure. However, forensic investigations later confirmed suffocation as the cause.
Greek media have likened Pispirigou to the mythical Medea, who murdered her children in revenge against her unfaithful husband.
