Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended three commissioners for one month due to their absence from the state executive council meeting held on March 17.
The suspended officials include Solomon Azi (Grants and Donor Agencies), Victor Chukwu (Environment), and Ikeuwa Omebe (Rural Development).
Commissioner for Information, Jude Okpor, announced the suspension on Tuesday during a briefing, stating that the affected commissioners failed to seek permission before missing the meeting.
Governor Nwifuru also directed that all privileges attached to their offices be withdrawn for the duration of the suspension.
He further warned public servants against negligence and absenteeism, emphasizing the need for commitment to duty.
Additionally, the governor urged contractors handling government projects to adhere strictly to their contractual agreements, warning that legal measures would be taken against any form of non-compliance.
During the meeting, the government approved the construction of staff quarters, a female hostel, and a health clinic at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in Afikpo.
In recognition of outstanding achievement, the state government also honoured the Ebonyi State University law team, which represented Nigeria at the 33rd Christof Heyns African Moot Court competition in Kigali, Rwanda.
The team, consisting of Michael Agu-Ebeke, Cynthia Ibor, and their instructor, Chioma Iteshi, received the Ebonyi State Honours Award along with a cash prize of N3 million each for their victory over 68 Anglophone and 15 Francophone teams.
Their win marks the first time in 33 years that a Nigerian law faculty has claimed this title.
