Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has expressed confidence in his chances of securing a second term in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
He stated that he has yet to see a formidable contender who could challenge his re-election bid.
Soludo emphasized that his administration’s achievements under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have been widely recognized by the people of Anambra, which he believes strengthens his party’s position for another term.
He pointed out that while residents may vote for different parties in national elections, APGA has consistently enjoyed support in state and local government contests.
“If the election holds—and it will—and I am on the ballot, I ask: who else is running? Which party has a strong candidate? So far, unless someone descends from the skies, I haven’t seen any serious challenger,” he said.
The governor also mentioned that many people have urged him to seek re-election but stressed that the final decision rests with his party.
“The party must first nominate me and provide the platform. I took on this role with a sense of purpose—to serve, uplift lives, and leave a lasting legacy. If APGA grants me the ticket and the people of Anambra choose to renew my mandate, it would be an honour to continue serving,” he added.
Anambra is among the eight Nigerian states where governorship elections take place outside the general election cycle due to previous court rulings.
