Following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Retd) as the sole administrator of the state.

Former Chief of Naval Staff
Ibas served as Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff from July 13, 2015, to January 26, 2021, overseeing the modernization and strategic operations of the Nigerian Navy.
A Distinguished Naval Officer
He enlisted in the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in 1979 and was commissioned as a sub-lieutenant in 1983, marking the beginning of a distinguished military career.
Born in Cross River State
Ibas hails from Nko in Cross River State, South-South Nigeria, a region known for its strong military representation.

Throughout his naval career, he played a key role in enhancing Nigeria’s maritime security, particularly in tackling piracy and illegal oil bunkering.
