Trial begins for Timileyin Ajayi, prime suspect in NYSC member’s murder

The trial of Timileyin Ajayi, the main suspect in the killing of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Salome Adaidu, has officially commenced in a Nasarawa State court.

Ajayi was first arraigned in January before Justice Simon Aboki of the High Court of Justice in Lafia, where he was charged with Adaidu’s murder.

The victim was discovered dead at his residence, raising serious allegations against him.

During the court session, Ajayi entered a plea of not guilty to the charges brought against him.

His defence team maintained that he had no involvement in the crime, while the prosecution insisted on presenting compelling evidence to establish his guilt.

Following the plea, the judge adjourned the case, scheduling further hearings between March 17 and March 20.

This period is expected to include witness testimonies and the presentation of forensic and circumstantial evidence related to the case.

The murder of Salome Adaidu, a young woman serving under the NYSC program, sparked public outrage, with many calling for swift justice.

Advocacy groups and members of the public have closely followed the case, demanding transparency and fairness in the legal proceedings.

As the trial progresses, the court will determine whether the evidence against Ajayi is sufficient for a conviction or if his defence will establish reasonable doubt regarding his alleged involvement in the crime.
