Trump to impose travel ban on 43 countries, divides list into three categories

Must read

U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to impose a travel ban on nationals from 43 countries as part of his administration’s ongoing immigration restrictions.

According to a Reuters report on Saturday, the proposal is outlined in an internal memo and has been confirmed by officials familiar with the discussions.

The document categorizes the affected countries into three groups: red, orange, and yellow, based on the severity of restrictions.

The red group, comprising 11 nations, faces the strictest measures, with citizens from Afghanistan, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Cuba, Bhutan, Venezuela, North Korea, Yemen, and Somalia being entirely barred from entering the U.S.

The orange group includes 10 countries where visa issuance would be significantly restricted. These nations are Russia, Belarus, Myanmar, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Pakistan, Laos, Turkmenistan, Haiti, and Eritrea.

The yellow category lists 22 countries that have been given 60 days to address concerns raised by U.S. authorities.

These countries include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, both Congos (Republic and Democratic Republic), Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.

Notably, major African economies such as Nigeria, South Africa, Algeria, and Egypt are not included in the list.

The New York Times initially revealed details of the proposed ban, while a U.S. official told Reuters that the list is still under review and subject to change.

The plan is part of Trump’s broader immigration crackdown, which intensified at the start of his second term in January.
