A 45-year-old Quranic teacher, Musa Wada, has been apprehended by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly killing his pupil, Bashir Adamu, over repeated absenteeism from classes.

According to the state police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu, Wada, who hails from Jikas-Dabaja village, was taken into custody on March 13 after a tip-off led to his arrest.

Investigations revealed that the teacher had punished Adamu for frequently missing school, but the punishment turned fatal when the boy lost consciousness and died.

In an attempt to conceal the crime, Wada reportedly mutilated the boy’s body, severing his head and genital organs before abandoning the remains by the roadside. The police further disclosed that he buried the dismembered parts on his farmland to cover his tracks.

The gruesome discovery came to light when residents of Jikas-Dabaja village found a decomposing, headless corpse along the roadside and reported it to the Gwaram Divisional Police Headquarters on March 12. Subsequent investigations confirmed that the body was that of Adamu, a student under Wada’s tutelage.

Following his arrest, Wada allegedly confessed to the crime, and the victim’s remains have been recovered by the authorities.

The police assured the public that the suspect would face prosecution as soon as the investigation is concluded.
