Nurse reveals details of Mohbad’s last hours during coroner’s hearing

An auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, gas revealed account of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, during her testimony before Justice C.A. Shotobi at the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Ogedengbe revealed that after administering a tetanus injection to Mohbad, he began vomiting. However, his wife, Omowunmi, reportedly dismissed it as a typical reaction he had to injections.

She stated that she had initially been contacted on September 12, 2024, by Ayobami Sodiq, also known as Spending, to treat the singer. Upon arriving at his Lekki residence that afternoon, she noticed swelling on his right hand and proceeded with the tetanus shot. After confirming that he had an ulcer, she opted for paracetamol instead of diclofenac.

The nurse explained that she administered 4ml of paracetamol mixed with 1ml of water, followed by a slow infusion of 10ml ceftriaxone to treat an infection. As she was administering the ceftriaxone, Mohbad showed signs of discomfort and stood up to vomit.

According to her, only four people were present in the room at the time: herself, the singer, his wife, and Ayobami. Concerned about his reaction, she questioned Omowunmi about why she hadn’t disclosed his history with injections.

Realizing his condition was worsening, she and Ayobami left to get medication, but a delay at the pharmacy slowed them down. She also alleged that when they eventually took him to a hospital, the medical staff hesitated before providing treatment, adding to the distress of the situation.

Following Mohbad’s passing, his remains were taken home before they proceeded to Orchid Lekki Police Station for a death certificate. Authorities later directed them to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah for further reporting.

After cross-examinations by lawyers representing Mohbad’s family, his wife, and the state, the case was adjourned to March 21, 2024, for further proceedings.

Her words in parts;

“After vomiting in the toilet, he returned to the room and sat on the floor, where I noticed the goosebumps on his body. I showed his wife (Omowunmi) the reaction, and she said it was his normal response to injections,

“After visiting another pharmacy and obtaining the necessary hydrocortisone injection and normal saline infusion, we returned to find Mohbad outside the house. By then, preparations were underway to take him to the hospital.

“Due to a lack of available vehicles and heavy traffic, Mohbad was transported to the hospital on a motorcycle, where he was later declared dead on arrival by the medical team.”
