Gunmen kill two NSCDC officers in Abia, steal rifles

Armed assailants ambushed a patrol team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Obiakpu Obuzor, Asa, located in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, killing two officers and making away with their rifles.

The attack, which took place on February 25, 2025, at around 9:00 a.m., targeted a six-man team assigned to protect oil pipelines.

According to intelligence sources, the deceased officers—AIC Mohammed Bello Bako and CCE Justice Anyamele—were overpowered by the gunmen, who then seized their AK-47 rifles, identified by breach numbers 47-02736 and KAM-04171, before escaping.

Following the incident, the bodies of the slain officers were laid to rest. Meanwhile, efforts by the NSCDC to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen firearms have so far yielded no results.
