Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the indefinite suspension of the Public Safety Response Team (PSRT) following the tragic death of a two-year-old girl during an altercation involving the team and a bus driver.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Friday, March 14.
The incident, which sparked public outrage, occurred when a bus lost control and veered off the road, crashing into a Point of Sale (PoS) kiosk where the child and her mother were standing. Witnesses reported that members of the PSRT were struggling with the bus driver over the steering wheel when the crash happened.
The impact of the collision resulted in the immediate death of the little girl.
Confirming the development, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, issued a statement stating:
“It is hereby announced for public awareness that the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has directed the indefinite suspension of the Public Safety Response Team, which is under the leadership of Kelly Okungbowa.”
