The Secretary to the Government of Rivers State (SSG), Tammy Danagogo, has cautioned that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s composed and peaceful leadership style should not be misinterpreted as a sign of weakness.
Danagogo’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions and criticism from opposition figures, notably the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
His statement follows backlash over a letter he signed, inviting lawmakers to meet with the Governor—a move Wike dismissed as “useless,” fueling further political debate.
Addressing journalists at the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, Danagogo defended his actions, stating that issuing such letters falls within his official duties.
“It is not unusual for an SSG to write a letter for an informal meeting. This is part of my responsibilities, and it has happened before,” he explained.
A legal practitioner from the Kalabari region, Danagogo previously served as SSG during Wike’s second term as governor.
He emphasized that Governor Fubara has exercised notable restraint despite repeated provocations, including the recent closure of the state assembly complex, which obstructed his presentation of the 2025 budget.
“Other governors in similar situations might have responded with stronger measures, but Governor Fubara remains committed to maintaining peace and stability,” Danagogo noted.
He reiterated that the Governor’s decision to de-escalate tensions reflects his dedication to the well-being of Rivers State residents.
