COAS urges soldiers to strengthen security efforts in Nigeria

Must read

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has called on soldiers to intensify their efforts in safeguarding Nigerians, particularly in addressing insurgency threats in the South-West.

During his first operational visit to the 32 Artillery Brigade at Owena Cantonment, Akure, on Friday, Oluyede emphasized the urgent need for military personnel to collaborate in tackling the country’s security concerns.

“Our nation is facing multiple security challenges, and we must rise to the occasion. Alongside other security agencies, we are working to significantly reduce these threats,” he said.

The COAS reminded the troops of their vital role in ensuring national stability, highlighting the direct link between security and development.

“When security is compromised, development suffers. The government is investing heavily in security, and if we can effectively safeguard Nigerians, those resources can be redirected toward improving livelihoods. This is why you must redouble your commitment and dedication,” he urged.

Reaffirming his commitment to the well-being of soldiers, Oluyede announced plans to construct housing units across military bases to ensure that personnel have proper accommodation after retirement.

“Additionally, we are set to produce 100,000 uniforms monthly, with the first batch to be distributed to the 81 Division and 2 Division starting tomorrow,” he added.

He also cautioned that as military operations dislodge criminals in the North, some are relocating to the South-West, necessitating proactive measures from troops in the region.

“With ongoing operations in the North, intelligence reports indicate that some criminal elements are moving southward. This requires immediate action. Addressing the issue now is crucial to prevent it from escalating into a larger crisis.

“We must ensure that the challenges witnessed in the North-East and North-West do not spread here. It is time to step up and take decisive action,” Oluyede said.
