The Labour Party has announced an extension of its ongoing membership registration and validation exercise until May.
The party’s spokesperson, Obiora Ifoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
Following a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, revealed that party congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels would now take place between June and July.
Initially, the validation exercise was scheduled to conclude on January 31, with ward congresses planned between February and March.
However, the party aims to expand its membership base to over 20 million ahead of the 2027 general elections, prompting the launch of an online registration and validation platform.
Abure also assured members in Anambra of a transparent and credible process during the upcoming governorship primaries.
“I want to reassure our members in Anambra State that, as is customary with our party, our primaries and congresses will be free, fair, and credible. It has always been our philosophy that if we want different results, we must adopt a different approach,” he stated.
