Kenya Presidential convoy kills British man in Nairobi

Must read

A 79-year-old British man, Edgar Charles Frederick, has died after being struck in a hit-and-run incident involving a support vehicle in Kenyan President William Ruto’s convoy.

The accident occurred on a busy road in Nairobi on Thursday, where Frederick was visiting family. According to police reports, the driver of the vehicle failed to stop after the collision but was later arrested.

Kenyan police spokesperson Michael Muchiri confirmed that the victim had travelled to Kenya to visit his sister and nephew, who reside in the country. Authorities have notified his next of kin, and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place on Friday.

Videos circulating on social media show Frederick lying on the road in blue jeans and a light-coloured shirt, bleeding from the impact. Other images depict his body covered with a traditional Maasai Shuka.

The vehicle involved was identified as belonging to the regional administration, providing logistical support to the president’s convoy. While President Ruto was in the area for public engagements at the time, his direct involvement in the incident remains unclear.

The UK High Commission in Kenya has acknowledged the reports and is seeking further details.

Meanwhile, police have assured that the driver will face court proceedings once investigations are concluded.
