The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Martins Amaewhule, has announced an indefinite suspension of its plenary sessions.
This decision comes amid escalating political tensions in the state.
Presiding over the session on Friday, March 14, in Port Harcourt, Amaewhule informed lawmakers of the indefinite adjournment.
The move follows an incident less than 24 hours earlier when Governor Siminalayi Fubara was unable to re-present the 2025 appropriation bill as required by the Assembly. The governor had attempted to present the budget on Thursday but was reportedly denied access to the Assembly complex.
In response, Governor Fubara later sent a formal letter to the House, proposing to re-present the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or any other date within the month that the lawmakers found suitable.
Details later.
