The apex socio-cultural organisation in Ibadan, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has refuted claims that a former governor of Oyo State and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, directed disqualified candidates to contest in the forthcoming elections.
CCII made this declaration via a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Olomide.
Recall that Mr Adeola Oloko, a former Personal Assistant to a former Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji had earlier claimed that Ladoja has directed all those who were disqualified to go ahead and contest the election.
CCII has however described the claim as as misleading.
Olomide in the statement made available to journalists on Friday, insisted that Ladoja’s intervention was solely aimed at fostering peace and unity within the council.
Olomide, emphasised that Ladoja did not interfere in the electoral process, but advised all parties involved to embrace reconciliation.
He maintained that the the reconciliatory meeting held at Ladoja’s Bodija residence during Iftar Thursday night, was intended to douse tensions and ensure that the elections proceed without unnecessary disputes or legal battles.
Olomide further clarified that the election process remains independent, with the electoral committee solely responsible for screening and approving candidates.
He maintained that any candidate disqualified on constitutional grounds must seek redress through the appropriate CCII channels, rather than relying on external influence.
“At no point during the meeting did Oba Ladoja instruct the CCII Electoral Committee to reverse any disqualifications. His Excellency only appealed to all parties to resolve their differences amicably and desist from actions that could jeopardise the integrity of the association.
“In fact, what Oba Ladoja said
was that proven records should be presented to any disqualified aspirants as proof of their disqualification. He repeated this statement more than three times.
“It is disheartening that some individuals are twisting the noble intentions of Oba Ladoja to suit their personal agendas.
“We appreciate Kabiyesi’s wisdom in guiding CCII towards a peaceful resolution, but it is important to correct the false impression that he ordered any candidate’s reinstatement”.
