A police officer serving with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has been taken into custody for allegedly stabbing a man to death during an altercation in Nyanya.
According to intelligence sources cited by Zagazola Makama, the officer, identified as ASP Sunday Alabi, was responding to a reported burglary on Thursday around 9:15 p.m. when the incident occurred.
Alabi reportedly attempted to arrest a suspect, but a crowd gathered, challenging the legitimacy of the complaint. Amid the ensuing chaos, he allegedly stabbed 35-year-old Clement Itom in the chest before retreating to the police station.
Itom was rushed to Nyanya General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators recovered a bloodstained jackknife from the scene as evidence.
Alabi is now in police custody, and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the case.
Authorities have assured the public of a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
