Court rejects bail for four suspected terrorists linked to Bello Turji

Must read

The Federal High Court in Abuja has denied bail to four individuals accused of supporting the operations of wanted bandit leader Bello Turji.

Justice Emeka Nwite ruled on Friday that the charges against the suspects were severe, justifying their continued detention.

He also noted that the prosecution, represented by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), had presented strong arguments highlighting the risk of the accused interfering with evidence, influencing witnesses, or engaging in further criminal activities if released.

The suspects—Musa Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu (also known as Doctor), Samuel Chinedu, and Lucky Chukwuma—allegedly provided material support to terrorist groups operating in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kaduna states.

The Federal Government has brought 11 terrorism-related charges against them, all of which they have denied.

According to court documents, between 2018 and 2022, the accused were involved in supplying banned substances, food, military gear, and construction materials to bandit camps.

In a separate charge, Kamarawa and two fugitives—Aminu Muhammad and Sani Lawal—are accused of purchasing a military-grade gun truck from Libya in 2021 and delivering it to a terrorist leader for ₦28.5 million, using both cash and electronic payments.

The suspects were initially remanded in Kuje Prison on December 23, 2024, as part of ongoing legal proceedings.

The case, registered under number FHC/ABJ/CR/633/2024, was filed by the Federal Government on December 16, 2024, with four of the accused still on the run.
