The Court of Appeal in Abuja has suspended the enforcement of its previous ruling from January 10, which upheld the Kano State Government’s decision to repeal the 2019 Emirate Council Law.
In its judgment on Friday, the appellate court also nullified the June 20, 2024, order of the Federal High Court in Kano.
That order had previously invalidated the Kano State Government’s actions under the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024, which included dissolving the five emirates created in 2019 and reinstating Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Emir.
As a result of this latest decision, the final verdict on Sanusi’s reinstatement as the 16th Emir of Kano will now be determined by the Supreme Court.
Detail later.
