Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Kogi Central lawmaker Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan are set to appear before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions (SCEPPP) over an allegation of sexual harassment.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Senate Deputy Chief Whip Onyekachi Nwebonyi confirmed that all involved parties, including other senators, would testify before the committee.
“The Senate President himself will appear before the committee. His testimony, along with those of other senators, will be recorded,” Nwebonyi stated.
Natasha, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleged on February 28 that Akpabio made inappropriate advances toward her during a visit to his Uyo residence in December 2023.
She claimed the Senate President held her hand, led her around the house, and behaved inappropriately, even while her husband was present.
Nwebonyi, however, dismissed the allegations, insisting they lacked merit. He accused Natasha of trying to shift attention from other matters, stating that the Senate was unshaken by her claims.
“In any criminal case, there must be prima facie evidence—clear proof that a crime occurred. If such evidence is absent, then there is no case,” he argued.
The Ebonyi North senator also revealed that he was present on the day of the alleged incident. “Many senators were there, and I am one of the key witnesses. I will testify and tell the world what truly happened,” he concluded.
