Again vandals destroy four transmission towers, plunge residents into darkness

Must read

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported a major setback after four transmission towers along the Owerri-Ahoada 132kV double circuit line were brought down by vandals.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 6:23 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, resulted in the collapse of towers numbered T171 to T174, cutting off electricity supply to Bayelsa State and some parts of Rivers State.

TCN explained that the issue came to light when engineers attempted a trial reclosure, which failed.

Upon inspecting the site, they confirmed that the structures had been deliberately sabotaged, disrupting power to the Ahoada, Gbarain, and Yenagoa 132kV substations.

Emmanuel Apka, General Manager of TCN’s Port Harcourt region, visited the site with a team to assess the damage.

He assured that efforts were underway to mobilize materials and personnel for repairs, with the goal of restoring power as soon as possible.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, condemned the act, calling it a significant setback to Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

She urged local communities to help protect transmission assets, warning that continued vandalism would hinder progress in the energy sector.
