Security personnel escorting Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum’s convoy successfully repelled an attempted Boko Haram attack along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi road on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
According to reports from Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, an unspecified number of terrorists were neutralized during the gun battle between the troops and the insurgents.
Seven kidnapped travelers were also rescued in the process.
Intelligence sources revealed that the convoy comprised troops from Operation Hadin Kai, a Police Crack Team, and senior government officials.
The group was returning from Biu Local Government Area when the terrorists attempted to seize travelers from a Volkswagen vehicle.
On sighting the assailants, the security personnel engaged them in a firefight, forcing the insurgents to flee and abandon their captives.
Governor Zulum was not present in the convoy during the attack, as he had earlier traveled by helicopter.
All rescued travelers were unharmed, and no injuries were recorded among the security personnel.
After repelling the attack, the troops recovered weapons and motorcycles left behind by the terrorists.
