Troops from Sub-Sector 4 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully ambushed and eliminated three bandits near the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Tuesday.

Lt-Col. Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division, Nigerian Army, confirmed the operation in a statement released on Wednesday in Kaduna.

According to Yahaya, the troops launched a well-planned ambush near Ngwagi Hill in Gwagwada Community, Chikun Local Government Area, following credible intelligence on the movement of violent extremists and insurgents.

Based on the intelligence, soldiers were swiftly deployed for a long-range fighting patrol to intercept the criminals at a likely crossing point. The ambush was executed at approximately 5:30 p.m., leading to the neutralization of three armed insurgents.

During the operation, the troops seized a significant cache of weapons and supplies, including two AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 374 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 special ammunition, and 88 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 NATO ammunition.

Additionally, they recovered an Infinix mobile phone, medical supplies, clothing, and dry rations.

Yahaya praised the troops’ morale and combat readiness, attributing the operation’s success to the effective collaboration between military forces and intelligence agencies.

He urged them to maintain their momentum until all criminal elements within the operational zone are eliminated.
