NNPP gives El-Rufai 48-hr ultimatum over remarks on party crisis

Must read

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, demanding that he retract his statement regarding the party’s internal crisis.

El-Rufai, during a visit to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) headquarters, had alleged that the federal government was behind the challenges facing the NNPP.

In response, the party dismissed his claims as baseless and accused him of lacking insight into its internal affairs.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the factional National Chairman of the NNPP, Oginni Olaposi, condemned El-Rufai’s remarks and demanded an unreserved apology.

He warned that failure to do so within 48 hours could lead to legal action against the former governor for making defamatory statements.

Olaposi further challenged El-Rufai to seek clarification from his associate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, regarding the origins of the party’s crisis.

He posed several rhetorical questions, asking whether the federal government had played any role in Kwankwaso’s past dealings with the party, including his 2022 negotiations for the NNPP platform and his alleged disputes with the party’s founder, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam.

He also questioned whether the government was responsible for Kwankwaso’s legal battle over his expulsion from the party or his refusal, along with Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee.

The NNPP insisted that El-Rufai’s claims are unfounded and is demanding that he set the record straight within the given timeframe.
