BREAKING: House of Reps passes Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills amid ongoing controversy

After months of heated debate, the Nigerian House of Representatives has approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tax reform bills.

Presidential spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, confirmed the development in a statement on his official X account on Thursday.

While he did not provide specific details, he stated that the bills were passed on March 13, 2025.

The passage of these bills follows persistent controversy over Tinubu’s proposed tax reforms.

The Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum had previously opposed the initiative, particularly the value-added tax (VAT) derivation model outlined in the Nigeria Tax Bill.

The National Economic Council also raised concerns about the derivation framework.

It is worth noting that Tinubu initially submitted four tax reform bills to the National Assembly on October 3, 2024.

These include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, the Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.
