NNPP denies APC’s involvement in party crisis, dismisses El-Rufai’s claims

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed claims by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the party’s internal crisis.

El-Rufai recently alleged that the APC was behind the turmoil within opposition parties, including the NNPP, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party. In a viral video on X, he suggested that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was deliberately orchestrating disputes to weaken opposition leadership.

Reacting to the allegation in a statement on Wednesday, NNPP National Chairman Dr. Agbo Major described El-Rufai’s comments as false and misleading.

He argued that the former governor’s remarks were based on misinformation spread by those opposed to the party’s internal democratic processes.

“The crisis within the NNPP, which has since been resolved, was caused by the ambitions of certain members who disregarded party agreements, rules, and regulations,” Major said.

He explained that the dispute originated after the 2023 general elections due to the dissolution of a Memorandum of Understanding that had temporarily united the NNPP, The National Movement (TNM), and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

“The entire disagreement has been publicly discussed across various media platforms since 2023. If even ordinary Nigerians are aware of the facts, it is disappointing that El-Rufai would make such an unfounded and unacceptable statement,” the NNPP chairman stated.

He further warned that Nigerians would not be misled and that El-Rufai had no authority to determine the country’s political direction in 2027.

Dr. Major advised El-Rufai to stay out of NNPP affairs, emphasizing that the party does not see itself as an opposition to any other political group, including the APC.

He added that the focus in Nigeria should be on governance, national development, and adherence to the rule of law rather than political distractions.
