Kidnapped Akure surveyors regain freedom after ransom payment

Nine surveyors who were abducted by armed bandits in Akure have been released.

According to Ajibade Owolanke, a relative of one of the victims, the hostages were freed at midnight after extensive negotiations with their captors.

The group was kidnapped two weeks ago at a worksite in Ilu Abo, Akure, with the abductors initially demanding a ransom of N100 million.

However, after prolonged discussions, the ransom was reduced to N20 million, which was raised through contributions from individuals and market traders.

“They have finally been released. We appreciate the media for amplifying this issue. We commend everyone who supported us,” Owolanke told reporters.

The freed victims have been taken to the hospital for medical care.
