A Sharia Court in Kano State has ordered the detention of a 29-year-old man, Abduljabar Nura, at the Goron Dutse Correctional Centre for allegedly stabbing his neighbor during a dispute over an electricity bill.
Nura, a resident of Fagge Quarters in Kano, was arraigned on charges of causing grievous harm. When the charges were read in court, he pleaded guilty.
Presiding over the case, Judge Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar ruled that the defendant remain in custody until April 15, when sentencing will take place.
According to the prosecution counsel, Zahradeen Abubakar, the incident was reported to the Fagge Police Station on February 28 by the victim, Haruna Kasim.
The prosecution stated that an argument between Nura and Kasim escalated, leading to Nura stabbing the complainant in the back with a pair of scissors.
The police noted that the offense violates Sections 158 and 165 of the Kano State Penal Code.
