IPU to review Senator Natasha’s complaint against Akpabio

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has pledged to take appropriate action after considering the concerns raised by suspended Nigerian senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

AFRIPOST had reported that Akpoti-Uduaghan had lodged a complaint with the IPU regarding her six-month suspension from the Senate, as well as allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio.

While addressing the Women in Parliament session at the United Nations in New York, she expressed her grievances, describing her suspension as unjust and calling for intervention from international democratic bodies.

Responding to her claims, IPU President Tulia Ackson emphasized the organization’s commitment to fairness, stating that Akpabio would also be allowed to present his side before any decision is made.

Ackson acknowledged the concerns raised by Akpoti-Uduaghan and assured that the IPU would follow due process.

She noted that although another Nigerian delegate had requested to speak on the matter, time constraints prevented their contribution.

She further reaffirmed that the IPU handles such cases with due diligence and would proceed with appropriate actions after reviewing all perspectives.
