Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has denied speculation that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a statement issued in Makurdi on Wednesday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, described the reports as baseless, emphasizing that Alia remains committed to the party that brought him into office.
Alia dismissed the rumors circulating on social media, stating that they were attempts to create unnecessary tension between him and President Bola Tinubu.
He also accused those spreading the false claims of using an old photograph to mislead the public.
The governor refuted reports of a recent visit by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to Makurdi, clarifying that no such visit took place.
He added that official security records would have confirmed such an event if it had occurred.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, Alia highlighted his administration’s efforts to strengthen the party in Benue, stating that his achievements had boosted the party’s image and put pressure on the opposition.
He further noted that his government’s alignment with the Federal Government had led to several benefits for Benue, including key political appointments for its people.
Governor Alia assured that he remains committed to President Tinubu’s developmental agenda and warned that any attempts to undermine his leadership would not succeed.
