A midnight fire outbreak has devastated sections of Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, causing significant property damage worth millions of Naira.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, stating that firefighting teams were still actively working at the site as of Wednesday morning.
In a brief statement, Akinyinka expressed appreciation to private companies that assisted in the emergency response.
“Our men are currently at Aleshinloye Market. We appreciate SWEETCO for providing their truck and personnel. The fire was massive,” he said.
He also extended gratitude to Sumal for deploying their crew to support firefighting efforts.
“We are deeply thankful to Sumal and SWEETCO for their assistance. At the moment, management cannot individually respond to inquiries due to logistical challenges,” he added.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and an assessment of the total damage is ongoing.
However, the incident has left traders counting their losses as emergency responders continue operations to prevent further destruction.
