APP drags APC to court over defiance of sacked council executives

Must read

The Action Peoples Party (APP) has taken legal action against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its state chairman for contempt of court, accusing them of failing to remove dismissed local government executives from office.

The case, filed at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, is registered as suit number FHC/OS/CS/103/22.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and other parties have also been listed as defendants.

According to the APP, the lawsuit is based on a court ruling delivered on November 30, 2022, which declared the local government elections unconstitutional.

The judgment rendered the poll invalid and effectively removed the officials from office.

In its petition, the APP urged the court to enforce the ruling by holding the defendants accountable for contempt. It requested that those who refuse to comply be imprisoned.

The motion reads in part: “The court has been informed that as of today, March 11, the dismissed officials continue to unlawfully occupy offices across the 30 councils in the state.

“You are hereby instructed to adhere to the court’s directive immediately or risk being found guilty of contempt.”
