Kwara govt urges residents to report tuberculosis symptoms

The Kwara State government has called on residents of Oke-Ero Local Government Area to remain vigilant and promptly report any individuals exhibiting symptoms of tuberculosis (TB) to the nearest government health facility.

Speaking at the investiture of Oke-Ero Local Government Tuberculosis Ambassadors in Ilofa on Monday, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Amina El-Imam, emphasized the importance of early detection in preventing the spread of the disease.

She highlighted that utilizing government healthcare services such as immunization programs, medical outreaches, and visits to public health centers would help safeguard communities from TB and other infectious diseases.

“To effectively curb the transmission of tuberculosis, residents should actively participate in awareness campaigns and ensure that anyone experiencing persistent cough, weight loss, night sweats, or fever seeks medical attention at approved health facilities,” she stated.

El-Imam reiterated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to providing quality healthcare for all citizens.

She also acknowledged the efforts of traditional rulers in promoting public health and encouraged them to continue their advocacy in the fight against TB.

The Director of Public Health, Oluwatosin Fakayode, urged residents to take advantage of the government’s free TB testing and treatment services, stressing that early diagnosis plays a key role in eradicating the disease from the state.

Similarly, Oke-Ero Local Government Chairman, Abiodun Fadipe, expressed appreciation for the government’s intervention in tackling tuberculosis, particularly at the grassroots level.

He assured continued support for initiatives aimed at improving public health.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Oke-Ero’s representative in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Joseph Bamgboye, as well as Ekiti Local Government Chairman, Gabriel Awelewa, and traditional rulers led by the Alofa of Ilofa, Oba Samuel Dada.
