Gunmen assassinate APC chairmanship aspirant in Lagos

Must read

Oluwatosin Onamade, an aspirant for the chairmanship position in Ijede Local Council Development Area under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been killed by unidentified gunmen in Lagos State.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday night in Ijede, Ikorodu.

His brother, Oluwafemi Onamade, confirmed the attack, stating that the assailants had been tracking him for some time before striking.

According to Oluwafemi, the attackers—dressed in black and with their faces covered—shot at Onamade before using a machete on his head and face when the bullets seemingly failed to take immediate effect.

“It happened around 9 p.m. on Saturday. There were two gunmen, and no one could recognize them. His aide fled when he heard the gunshots. They attacked him right in front of his house on Oluwatosin Onamade Street in Ijede,” he recounted.

Oluwafemi alleged that his brother was targeted by political rivals who saw him as a strong contender for the chairmanship seat. He also revealed that Onamade had survived a similar attack in 2021, with some of the culprits still in custody awaiting judgment.

Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation has been launched into the killing.

“Investigation has commenced into the incident,” Hundeyin said.
