MACBAN demands investigation into Kwara Chairman’s murder

Must read

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on security agencies to investigate the killing of its Kwara State chairman, Idrissu Abubakar.

MACBAN’s national president, Baba Ngelzarma, made the appeal in a statement on Sunday, following confirmation of the tragic incident by the Kwara State Police Command.

According to the police, Abubakar was shot dead by unidentified gunmen around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday in front of his residence at Oke Ose, Ilorin East Local Government Area.

Officers recovered five expended 7.62mm shells from the scene, and his body was later deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary.

Reacting to the killing, Ngelzarma condemned the murder of the 33-year-old chairman, describing him as a dedicated leader committed to promoting peace and the welfare of pastoralists.

He noted that Abubakar was the second MACBAN chairman to be killed this year, following the murder of Katsina State chapter chairman, Alhaji Sirajo Mairana, just two months ago.

The deceased is survived by two wives, six young children, and his elderly mother.

Ngelzarma stated that reports from the association indicated that the attackers ambushed Abubakar as he returned home from Tarawee prayers.

He lamented the increasing attacks on MACBAN leaders, revealing that in the past two years, the group had lost more than seven state and local government chairmen to unidentified gunmen.

Additionally, he highlighted the disappearance of MACBAN’s national vice president, Alhaji Manir Lamido, who went missing in 2023 while traveling between Katsina and Kaduna states.

Ngelzarma urged security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the recurring killings, vowing that MACBAN would pursue justice for the slain leaders.
