BREAKING: El-Rufai quits APC, joins SDP over discontent with party leadership

Must read

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has officially parted ways with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and aligned with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing deep-seated disagreements with the ruling party’s leadership.

In a resignation letter submitted to his ward in Kaduna State on Monday, El-Rufai voiced his dissatisfaction with the APC’s trajectory, stating that the party had strayed from the democratic principles and progressive ideals he holds dear.

“I have dedicated years to building the APC as a formidable political platform,” he wrote. “However, the past two years have revealed a troubling shift away from democratic values.”

A founding member of the APC, El-Rufai played a crucial role in the party’s victories in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 elections.

Reflecting on his tenure as governor, he highlighted his administration’s commitment to education, healthcare, infrastructure, job creation, and investment.

Despite his contributions, he noted that concerns over governance and internal party issues had led him to seek an alternative political platform.

“At this point in my political journey, I must align with a party that reflects my vision for progressive leadership,” he stated.

Announcing his move to the SDP, El-Rufai expressed gratitude to his mentors, colleagues, and supporters while reaffirming his commitment to strengthening democracy.

“As a member of the SDP, I am determined to build a viable alternative to the APC in future elections,” he said.

According to The West, he encouraged Nigerians who share his concerns about the country’s future to join the SDP, emphasizing the need to position Nigeria as a source of pride for Africa and the Black Race.

El-Rufai ended his statement with a call for unity and progress, pledging to work towards a stronger democratic system in Nigeria.
