APC urges Gov Adeleke to comply with court ruling on LG chairpersons’ reinstatement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to abide by the Court of Appeal ruling that reinstated the party’s local government chairpersons and councillors.

At a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, APC’s spokesperson in Osun State, Kola Olabisi, emphasized the need for the governor to uphold the rule of law and refrain from what he described as political retaliation.

Olabisi stressed that governance should prioritize democratic progress, adherence to legal procedures, and transparency, rather than engaging in political disputes.

He also criticized the ongoing conflict between Governor Adeleke and his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola—now the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy—stating that it tarnishes the state’s political reputation.

“We are troubled by the political spectacle unfolding in Osun, a state renowned for its intelligent and politically savvy citizens,” Olabisi said.

He lamented that the state had been in the spotlight for negative reasons in recent weeks due to the governor’s refusal to enforce the court ruling reinstating the APC chairpersons.

Expressing further concern, Olabisi noted that despite directives from the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, Governor Adeleke had failed to act in accordance with the judgment.

“This ongoing political crisis is a clear indication that the governor is losing public trust and struggling to maintain order,” he stated.

The APC spokesperson urged Adeleke to immediately implement the Court of Appeal’s February 10 judgment in the interest of democracy and effective governance.

Defending the actions taken by the Oyetola-led administration, Olabisi maintained that all necessary legal and procedural requirements had been met, dismissing allegations of irregularities as baseless.

He also rejected claims of money laundering involving the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), stating that there was no credible evidence to support such accusations.

“For clarification, the $20.467 million was converted into ₦6.26 billion and credited by the Central Bank of Nigeria to the Osun State government’s account, as confirmed by CBN records,” he explained.

Reiterating that governance should be guided by truth and legal frameworks rather than political vendettas, Olabisi challenged the Adeleke administration to provide any evidence it has in court.
