FG takes over Gombe’s Kumo General Hospital after conversion to FMC

Must read

The Federal Government has officially taken control of General Hospital, Kumo, in Gombe State, transforming it into a Federal Medical Centre.

With this development, the new Kumo Federal Medical Centre becomes the second federal healthcare facility in the state, alongside the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, which was originally a medical centre before being upgraded.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the decision in a statement on Sunday, explaining that the initiative is aimed at strengthening healthcare services in Gombe State and the Northeast.

A key focus of the move is to address high maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the region.

“The Kumo Federal Medical Centre will function as a tertiary healthcare facility, aid in training medical professionals, and enhance medical services in Gombe State and the Northeast at large,” the statement noted.

Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya had formally requested the federal takeover of the hospital, a request that President Bola Tinubu approved, citing the pressing healthcare challenges in the region.

Tinubu also commended Governor Yahaya for prioritizing public welfare, emphasizing that converting the hospital into a federal institution would significantly improve healthcare delivery in the area.
